Note Norwich United FC was originally founded in 1903 as Poringland & District FC and played at Poringland Memorial Playing Field. In 1985 the club achieved senior status and was forced to look for a new home. The Heartsease Lane ground of Gothic FC served this purpose for a short period until the club moved onto the new site at Plantation Park (actually on the outskirts of Blofield and not Norwich), and joining the Eastern Counties League in 1989.

With agricultural land surrounding the site, the ground is well-named and, in common with many East Anglian clubs, is well appointed with plenty of scope for further development. It is a little off the beaten track and visiting supporters are no doubt grateful for the excellent clubhouse behind the near goal, with windows looking out over the pitch, and fronted by a large car park.

The stand which runs along one touchline has several steps of shallow terrace on either side of a central seated area, although the latter do not provide much in the way of an elevated view. Advertising boards on the roof fascia give it a nice ‘retro’ feel. Two large breezeblock dugouts stand opposite on either side of the half-way line. The red seats appear to have enjoyed an earlier existance at another ground, and I would be guessing if I suggested Ayresome Park from where ECL rivals Fakenham Town also paid a visit! If anyone can confirm this, please drop me a line. DB
