Note The Hall have been in existence since the 1890s, and had several pitches around the town before moving to the Recreation Ground, which was given to the town during WW2 by the Bunbury family. It was originally used for football and cricket, and the pitch ran at ninety degrees to its present position, with one goal under what is now the swimming pool. The rotation of the pitch in 1970 also saw the departure of the cricket club. The club was a founder member of the Eastern Counties League in 1988, and this coincided with significant developments to the ground, including a small covered area the following year, and the fine clubhouse in 1992. Floodlights were erected two years later.

Recreation Way is a neat, well-kept ground, that slopes down to the far end. All of the facilities are along the near touchline, with a couple of smart dugouts opposite. The side of the clubhouse has the clubís name picked out in the brickwork; however, a Nursery School was using the facilities at the time of my visit so I didnít want to get too close with my camera! At the far end of the touchline is a small stand, with shallow benches for about 50 spectators underneath a steeply pitched roof. There is an impressive fascia board but I imagine that better use could have been made of this structure, by incorporating some rather steeper seating. Hedges enclose this immaculate venue. DB
