Note I visited the Conigre in October 2003 en route to a game at Chippenham Town, and found a delightful venue - described by Kerry Miller as “the absolute epitome of small market town grounds”. Sadly the old wooden stand was demolished in the early 1990s and replaced by a typically nondescript modern version. This is quite low but is at least set off nicely by the presence of a fascia board bearing the club name. The latter is also emblazoned along the rear of the cover behind the goal at the Rugby Club end of the ground. Further cover (and more lettering) extends around opposite the stand. Both date from the late 1960s. Here also can be found my favourite part of the whole ground - a manually operated scoreboard, something that I have seen at cricket grounds but never at a football ground. Superb! I hope it’s still there ... and that the incongrous blue corner flags have been replaced. The unusual dugouts are rather ugly but are certainly different, and another point of interest. There is a good club history on the official website (link above). DB
